Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense pulsed light, often called IPL, is a non-invasive procedure that uses targeted light to reduce discoloration and even some fine lines. Here at Primera Med Spa, IPL is especially popular with Orlando-area men and women who are bothered by lingering sun damage such as brown spots and blotchiness. IPL is a gentle procedure that can undo the damage of summers past in a few simple sessions.

Let our skilled aesthetic professionals bring out the best in your face. Request a consultation online or call Primera Med Spa at (407) 936-3230 to schedule your appointment.

Planning Your IPL Treatment

If you're visiting Primera Med Spa for your first IPL treatment, your appointment will begin with a brief consultation with our physician assistant. The physician assistant evaluates your skin and spends time talking with you about your desired goals. The PA also reviews your relevant medical history to ensure IPL is appropriate for you. In some cases, the physician assistant may recommend an alternate or complementary treatment, such as fibroblast lift therapy or microdermabrasion.

Although IPL is often indicated for sun damage, it's a versatile treatment that can be adjusted based on your needs. At Primera Med Spa, we use IPL to treat the following:

What to Expect

IPL is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure that typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes. After your treatment, you can return to your usual activities immediately.

During your treatment, your aesthetician cleanses your face and applies a cooling gel as well as protective eyewear. He or she uses a handpiece to direct powerful beams of light over your skin. Although the procedure isn't painful, some people report a prickling or pinching sensation.

After your procedure is over, you can immediately return to work, errands, or whatever your normal activities include. Be sure to keep your skin protected from excessive sun exposure since it can be especially sensitive after treatment.

Enjoying Your Results

Over the next several days, you may notice your freckles and dark spots becoming even darker. This is normal and a good indicator that the treatment was successful. Redness is also typical, but generally short-lived.

Your results will reveal themselves over a couple of weeks following treatment. Your dark spots and pigmented lesions will gradually fade, and you may notice a more even, consistent skin tone. Often, we recommend a series of up to 6 treatments, typically spaced several weeks apart, to achieve the best results. You can expect to maintain your results for several months, especially if you keep your skin protected from the sun.
